Creative Ways to Recycle Paper Packaging

It may seem obvious but there are actually many ways you can recycle and re-use paper packaging that you may never have considered. We’re all about finding effective ways to recycle packaging, so why not try some of our ideas?

Packing perfection

If you own an online store, you’ll know that finding safe and effective ways to ship products to your customers is a top priority. You’ll also be all too aware of all the leftover packaging that accumulates in your pick and pack rooms.

To tackle both problems at once, why not use leftover paper packaging to pad out cardboard boxes ready for shipment? Scrunch paper down into corners and wedge between gaps to keep items safe in transit.

In-box presentation is important - leave a note for your consumers letting them know about your aim to recycle paper packaging. Environmentally conscious consumers will be impressed by your efforts which could prompt them to buy from you again.

Reuse and reward

It’s great if you’ve already taken the initiative to use paper carrier bags in your store, but how can you make the most of this decision? Try introducing a reuse and reward scheme for your customers. When customers return to your store using a paper bag from a previous visit, offer them a small reward as a thank you for supporting your recycling initiative.

This could be anything from a mini sample, a 5% discount coupon or £5 off their next shop. The possibilities are endless and totally customisable to your store and its produce. Your regular customers will be delighted to receive rewards from their favourite store and environmental advocates will feel more inclined to shop with you in the future.

Get creative

If you receive regular deliveries to your store, you can often be faced with a mountain of left over packaging. Instead of letting this go to waste, why not get creative? Use cardboard and paper to make displays in your store to promote seasonal sales or new stock.

The beauty of paper packaging is that it can be customised and shaped to create the perfect window or shop floor display. Top tip: if you have a large amount of left over kraft paper and cardboard, this can be great for organic shops to make a display that’s perfectly on brand.

Recycling stations

If there’s no other ways your store can re-use or recycle paper packaging, why not introduce recycling stations? By having recycling stations outside your store, customers can quickly and easily dispose of any unwanted paper packaging with one quick trip.

Your colleagues can also take advantage of these recycling stations, meaning everyone can be working together to reduce the amount of packaging waste.
