What size cardboard boxes do I need?

The size of the cardboard box you’ll need will depend on the size of the product or products you’re shipping. If you’re dispatching more than one product, it’s a good idea to buy a range of cardboard boxes that will accommodate your SKUs.

You should measure the length, width, and depth (or height) of your product. You can then tell what size cardboard box you need. Cardboard box sizes or dimensions are usually given in mm and will represent the internal size of the box you’re looking at, which is the usable space inside it. Using the internal dimensions will give you the optimum fit for your product.

If you need to understand the outer or shipping size of your cardboard boxes, you’ll need to check how thick the cardboard is. Usually, to get the outer size you add several mm to the internal dimensions depending on whether the corrugated cardboard is a single wall or double wall.

What is the difference between single wall and double wall cardboard boxes?

Corrugated cardboard boxes are made of various layers of cardboard glued together. The corrugated or wavy pattern of inside the layer of cardboard is called fluting. There are different types of fluting, and it gives corrugated cardboard its different strength and performance properties.

The most basic corrugated cardboard box is a single wall box. This is when a single layer of corrugated material is sandwiched between two flat layers of cardboard. Single wall boxes

A double wall cardboard box has two layers of corrugated material or fluting. You can also get triple wall boxes, which are extra heavy duty.
