Coolants

Macfarlane Packaging’s coolants are used to ensure that in-pack temperatures remain at a minimal during your products shipment. Our coolants are designed to be used with our chilled packaging shipping boxes and thermal liners.

Our most popular coolants are our gel packs. Are gel packs are made from highly purified water and are perfect for maintaining low temperatures. Macfarlane Packaging’s coolants for chilled packaging are normally frozen before use and packed on top of goods, as cold air moves down ensuring your goods arrive in perfect condition.

Coolants are perfect for shipping either food or pharmaceuticals. Macfarlane Packaging’s coolants can be used for various applications and are available in a variety of sizes. We sell our most popular coolant, gel packs online.

What solution is right for me?

The chilled packaging solution you need will depend on the temperature that needs to be maintained within the pack (chilled, ambient, frozen). The range of products you’re shipping can also have a big impact such as the perishability, weight, fragility, and size of the product. Finally. the shipping journey is also a big factor as the thermal packaging products will need to remain in perfect condition. When sending frozen products, you will need to consider how will you be shipping the product – by air or by courier networks, and how long it will take to reach the destination.

You should also consider if there are any legal requirements for the particular product you’re shipping, such as food or pharmaceuticals. This may differ, depending on where you’re shipping to and from, especially if you’re shipping internationally.

What are the benefits of using gel packs?

Our gel packs are perfect for keeping food at a chilled temperature in transit ensuring they arrive in perfect condition. Our gel packs remain in a solid formation when frozen, making them less susceptible to deformations in transit. Our gel packs are also easy to use, ensuring that when your goods arrive it is a smooth process unpacking your frozen goods.

Are coolants recyclable?

When recycling our gel packs it is important to remove water from the pack before recycling. The outer film of our gel packs can be recycled with bags a large supermarkets.

Checking out websites like RecycleNow can also be useful in identifying whether packaging materials can be recycled.

All Macfarlane Packaging products also have an Environmental Impact Rating, so you can see what material they’re made from, if  they can be recycled and whether they contain any recycled content – helping you make an informed choice.
